A café boasted to the world by Kyoto where traditions are alive.

Kaikado Cafe

A café produced by Kaikado, the oldest tea canister maker in Japan. As Takahiro Yagi, the 6th generation owner, says “we hope our customers enjoy traditional crafts to their heart’s content”. Various traditional crafts are used for serving their food and drinks. The cup and saucer are Asahiyaki pottery from Uji, the plate for cakes is a custom-made article made by Nakagawa-mokkogei, and the glasses are original products ordered from PONTE in Gion. You can touch various items with traditional Kyoto inlay while tasting cheesecake and coffee.

Tea canister samples from Kaikado are displayed at the end of the cafe. There are 3 types of copper, tinplate, and brass. You can see how the feel and texture has changed over time.

Coffee and tea are prepared fresh and to order. The coffee of Nakagawa Wani Coffee and the tea of Postcard Teas are both specially blended for Kaikado Cafe.

Interior goods from the Danish design office HAY are used in the open space of the garden.
